1st LD: 5 killed as militants attack check post in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least two security personnel and three militants were killed when insurgents stormed a security check post in Pakistan's northwest Frontier Region (FR) Bannu Thursday morning, local Urdu TV channel Abb Takk reported.

Some 12 to 15 militants armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the check post in Daryoba area of FR Bannu.

The security forces fought back, killing three militants whose identities have not been revealed yet.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Daryoba is a sparsely populated area in the FR Bannu region which serves as a buffer zone between the tribal and settled areas in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

It used to be a hotbed of militants prior to a military operation in the area in 2009 which broke the backbone of the militants in this area.

However, the militants continue launching sporadic attacks on security forces there. Endi
