Eighth Annual Gypsy Fest begins in Bratislava

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Roma culture festival Gypsy Fest started in Bratislava on Wednesday, with gypsy music, theatre and acting performances, said the festival's spokesperson Monika Komorova.

The organisers say that they've prepared an interesting program for the viewers. The opening night will be held in the spirit of Roma traditions. Several Slovak renowned actors will feature.

"When we asked them to support our theatre project, they agreed immediately, even without being paid. It's important for us that publicly accepted people participate in the festival. Only thanks to them can we manage to change the stereotypical, negative view towards the Roma," stressed festival director Jozef Sivak.

The eighth Annual Gypsy Fest will end in a two-hour gala finale on Friday, with several well-known bands from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Sweden performing.

"Gypsy Fest - World Roma Festival" has been organised in Slovakia since 2008. Artists from 17 countries have participated in the event. Endit
