S'pore leaders convey condolences over death of former Indian President Kalam

Leaders of Singapore have conveyed condolences to India over the death of its former President APJ Abdul Kalam, said Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement on Wednesday.

Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam described Abdul Kalam as "deeply respected in India and internationally as a great scientist, an eminent statesman and a visionary leader" in his letter to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. President Tan said that "His passing is an irreplaceable loss."

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, saying he was "deeply saddened" by the news and extended his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the government.

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong expressed his sadness when he learnt the sudden passing of APJ Abdul Kalam. Goh wrote that Abdul Kalam was a "truly remarkable man" in his letter to Indian Prime Minister Modi. Endi
