Over 56 pct of Latvians approve of new president's job performance: poll

Over half of Latvians, or 56.5 percent, have approved of new Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis' job performance, Latvian public television reported on Monday citing a public opinion poll.

The survey, conducted by Latvijas Fakti research agency, showed that 21.7 percent of respondents approved of Vejonis' job performance, and 34.8 percent tended to approve of the president's performance.

Meanwhile, 9.7 percent of respondents in the poll voiced negative opinions about Vejonis as the new president of Latvia.

Also, 31.1 percent of respondents said they did not know how to evaluate the president's job performance.

Vejonis, Latvia's former defence minister, was sworn into office as president of Latvia on July 8. Endit
