Xinhua, July 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mexico City football team Pumas defeated the Rayados of Monterrey 3-0 on Sunday in the 2015 MX League opener.

The First Division match at Mexico's Olympic Stadium saw Pumas, the squad of the national autonomous university (UNAM), get off to a strong start, with an active offense and well-coordinated defense.

Pumas player Alejandro Castro delivered the first goal just seven minutes into the game with a header beyond the reach of rival goalie Juan de Dios Ibarra.

The second goal came just nine minutes later with a nice combination play between Gerardo Alcoba and Javier Cortes, who passed each other the ball before Alcoba shot it past the goalkeeper.

The third goal took even less time, with Ismael Sosa positioning himself just meters in front of the goalpost in the 29th minute to drive in a powerful shot.

The team dedicated its win to the fans, saying it will work hard to cinch the championship.
