Wolfsburg crush Shandong Luneng 4-1 in Weifang Cup opener

Bundesliga side Wolfsburg's youth team beat their Shandong Luneng counterparts 4-1 in Luneng Weifang Cup International Youth Football Tournament here on Sunday.

Eight teams, mostly composed of U-19 players, competed in the tournament.

Luneng players are not at the same level with their German counterparts, both in tactics and in physical conditions from the very start.

Wolfsburg opened their scoring account by Conde three minutes into the match. Luneng conceded two more goals at 7th minute by Putaro and 17th minute by El-Saleh. Putaro scored another goal in added time of the first half.

Luneng players still failed to follow the pace of Wolfsburg after substitues came off the bench in the second half. Luneng team managed to score at the 85th minute by Ma Shuai, their only goal in the match.

Seven clubs' youth teams from Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, China, the Netherland, along with China's national youth team, are competing in the tournament running from July 26 to August 1.

In other matches, Vitoria Guimaraes beat defending champion River Plate 1-0. Argentinos Juniors edged ADO Den Haag 3-2. Mexican C.D.Guadalajara crushed Chinese national youth team 6-0, as Chinese players are two years in average younger than their Mexican opponents.

Initiated by Shandong Luneng Taishan Football School in 2006, the event won support from the Chinese Football Association, who wanted to improve China's football performance through matches against more strong sides.

Following are champions of the past events: Shandong Luneng F.C. (2006), Australian National Youth team (2007), Rcd Espanyol youth team (2009), China National Youth Team (2010), Mexican C.D. Guadalajara F.C. (2011), Villarreal C.F. (2012), Sao Paulo F.C (2013) and River Plate (2014).

Shandong Luneng Taishan Football School, established in 1999 by China Super League side Luneng club, serves as a cradle for young talented footballers.

Luneng established Luneng Brazil Sports Center last July, which is located in Porto Feliz, about 100 kilometers outside Brazil's largest city Sao Paulo. The Sports Center is the first overseas youth training center for Chinese soccer players. Endi
