Egyptian armed forces killed 17 extremists during armed clashes on Saturday at Sheikh Zuweid city in the restive North Sinai bordering the Palestinian Gaza Strip and Israel, security forces told Xinhua.

"The fierce confrontations went on for hours after militants attacked a military checkpoint south of Sheikh Zuweid and the military forces forced them to retreat and then attacked their hideout at a nearby town and killed 10 of them," the sources said. (Egypt-IS-Terrorism)

MANAMA -- Bahraini authorities announced on Saturday that they had foiled a terror operation with links to Iran involving attempts to smuggle high-grade explosives, automatic weapons and ammunition into the country via sea.

The Interior Ministry said a joint counter-terrorism operation was conducted on Saturday involving the Bahraini Coast Guard, Police Aviation Unit and Bahraini Royal Naval Force, as they intercepted a vessel heading towards Bahrain after meeting another vessel just outside of Bahrain's territorial waters. ISLAMABAD -- At least 43 people were killed, hundreds of others injured and tens of thousands displaced in flooding and rain-related accidents in Pakistan's Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, local media and officials said Saturday.

Chitral district of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkwa province was the worst-hit area, where 30 people were killed in the flash floods caused by the heavy monsoon rains, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of the province said. (Pakistan-Rain Incidents)

YAOUNDE -- At least 12 people were killed and many others injured in a suicide bomb blast in Maroua, capital of Cameroon's Far North Region Saturday night.

A woman detonated a bomb attached to her belt around 07:40 p.m. local time (1840 GMT) in a bar. It was only three days ago that double suicide bomb blasts took place in Maroua's central market, killing at least 20 people. (Cameroon-Suicide Bomb) Endi
