Mexican F1 driver Perez suffers accident in Hungary GP practice

Xinhua, July 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Mexican Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez, from the Sahara Force India team, suffered an accident on Friday during the first practice for the Hungary Grand Prix.

According to reports, he suffered a suspension failure on the right-rear side as he came out of a turn at high speed. The jolt sent his car into a crash barrier but it spun back onto the track. However, one of the front wheels was bent beneath the chassis by the impact, causing the car to flip over.

Thankfully, the driver was able to walk away from the crash and medical tests revealed he had sustained no injury.

In a Facebook post, he wrote "Thanks for all your support. We had a little failure on the rear suspension of the car, which was what caused the incident. Thank God I'm alright and we're ready for the rest of the weekend."

Sahara Force India has opened an investigation to determine the full cause of the malfunction.

Prior to the accident, Perez had set the eighth fastest time on the track but the practice session was dominated by the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

The Hungary GP will take place on Sunday, with Hamilton, Rosberg, and Sebastian Vettel seen as the favourites. Endi
