16 soldiers get struck by lightning during training in southern Germany

Sixteen soldiers from the German federal armed forces Bundeswehr get struck by lightning on Wednesday in Bavaria, according to local police.

Local police is cited by German media as saying that the soldiers were doing their basic training in a bivouac, a makeshift camp in the open, when they got struck in the municipality of Mittenwald in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Three of them were injured severely and had to be taken to hospital immediately, while the others received first aid on the scene, local police said.

A number of 17 rescue vehicles and 2 rescue helicopter were in use to help.

There is a storm alert in Bavaria on Wednesday. And a storm moved over the region, where the soldiers were exercising in the afternoon. Endit
