Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli met with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) here on Friday, and both sides expressed willingness to fully implement consensus reached between their leaders.

Zhang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said the two countries have been earnestly implementing the consensus reached between the CPV chief and Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, during Trong's visit to China in April.

Zhang said the purpose of his Vietnam trip is to further implement the consensus by discussing with the Vietnamese side concrete measures to boost strategic communication, political trust, practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

During the meeting, Zhang congratulated the Vietnamese side on its progress under the leadership of the CPV and also proposed the two sides upgrade their cooperation, conjoin their development strategies so as to attain more win-win results.

Hailing the significance of Zhang's visit as the two countries celebrate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, Trong, for his part, said he himself and the CPV Central Committee attach great importance to the friendship and partnership with China.

Trong said he is happy to see China's achievements of reform and opening up as well as its important contribution to regional and global peace and development.
