Lithuanian police seizes 100 kg of cocaine

Xinhua, July 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Lithuanian police officers seized 100 kg of cocaine and detained 11 suspects on drug trafficking, Lithuanian police announced Friday.

"This is the largest amounts of cocaine seized in the history of independent Lithuania," Police Commissioner General Linas Pernavas said in a press release.

According to Pernavas, the cocaine cargo was seized after several years of operations. The seized cocaine was hidden in coal cargo shipped to Lithuania from Columbia.

Police had to overload around 239 metric tons of coal to find the hidden cocaine.

The seized drugs were meant to be delivered to Russian and European markets, police added.

According to Lithuanian law, suspected drug traffickers may face up to 15 years in prison. Endit
