Tourism in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is improving after being hit hard last year, the regional tourism bureau said Friday.
In the first half of 2015, nearly 16 million domestic tourists visited Xinjiang, 15.8 percent up on last year, said the bureau.
The region has attracted 667,700 foreign tourists, up 7.8 percent year-on-year. Domestic and foreign tourists have spent more than 3.7 billion U.S. dollars there.
Xinjiang has eight 5A tourist attractions, and 16 new attractions are under construction. China has its own 5A classification system when it comes to grading the quality of its numerous tourist attractions. 5A means the top.
Xinjiang is tapping its resources including flowers, deserts, hot springs and mountains to attract more visitors. Endi
