Indian PM cancels visit to his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi

Xinhua, July 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday canceled his scheduled visit to his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said that the prime minister called off his one-day visit due to heavy rains in the town where he was supposed to go in the afternoon.

This is the second time in recent weeks that Modi was forced to scrap his visit to Varanasi in the last one month because of heavy rains.

Local TV channels showed footage of waterlogging at the venue even though proper arrangements like rain-proof tents were raised and pumps were used to pump out rainwater.

Modi was likely to announce several development schemes in his constituency, apart from addressing his supporters. Endi
