Iran's leader says conclusion of nuclear talks "important step"

Xinhua, July 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday that the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers was an important step for the Islamic republic, Khamenei's official website reported.

"I sincerely thank the (nuclear) negotiating team for their consistent and tough efforts... as the conclusion of the talks is an important step," he was quoted as saying.

Khamenei warned against what he called the "possible breach of commitments by the other side," saying that "it is necessary for the text of the deal to be patiently scrutinized in its legal process and the means of infringement be sealed."

He reiterated that some western members of the P5+1 group -- namely, Britain, China, France, Russia, the United Stated and Germany -- are "not trustable."

Besides, Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani on Wednesday welcomed the recent nuclear deal after over 20 months of tough negotiations, saying that the Iranian lawmakers will examine the deal's text and annexes in "a positive and constructive approach."

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said here on Wednesday that with the recent nuclear deal between Iran and the world major powers, the nuclear program of the country will shift from confrontation to scientific and commercial activities.

Iran will use all its technological and software capacities as well as the global technologies to move towards commercial uranium enrichment and advanced nuclear program, Zarif said upon arriving in the capital Tehran from Vienna.

As with the supreme leader's guidelines, all the banking, economic and financial sanctions will be removed on the day when the agreement becomes operational, he said.

Zarif referred to the deal between Iran and world powers as the success for Iranians since it paves the way for "Iran's uranium enrichment right to be recognized by the UN Security Council."

The nuclear deal was reached between Iran and six countries after a 13-year stand-off on Tuesday. Endit
