EU prolongs suspension of sanctions against Iran until Jan. 2016

Xinhua, July 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Union here on Tuesday announced to prolong until January 14 2016 the suspension of EU restrictive measures targeting Iran, following the latest agreement reached in Vienna on the Iranian nuclear issue.

"This will allow the EU to make the necessary arrangements and preparations for the implementation of the new Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," said a press release issued by the European Council, noting that the restrictive measures were agreed in the Joint Plan of Action with Iran dated November 24 2013.

The comprehensive agreement on Iran nuclear issue was struck earlier Tuesday between Iran and Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States after over two weeks of bargaining talks in Vienna.

The text of the deal specifies key areas of the Iranian nuclear issue, including sanctions relief and action plan, nuclear technology cooperation, the committee of the monitoring of the implementation, and capping of Iran's nuclear capacity, and draft of UN Security Council resolution. Endit
