Philippine new police chief appointed

Xinhua, July 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III has named new chief of the 155,000-strong officers and personnel of the national police force, a senior government official said on Tuesday.

Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II said Aquino appointed Police Director Ricardo Marquez as the new head of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Marquez, 55, would be replacing office-in-charge Leonardo Espina who will retire from the service on July 19 when he reaches 56, the mandatory retirement age for uniformed personnel.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Marquez was chosen based on his qualification and capability.

Marquez graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1982 and he will retire in August next year. Endi
