Xinhua, July 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Monday called for improving banking system in the militancy-plagued country.

"Banking is an important pillar of economic development in the country and in the lack of efficient banking system we can't achieve economic stability," President Ghani said at a ceremony to introduce the new president of the country's central bank, here in Arg or Presidential Palace.

In the ceremony attended by civil and military officials, among others, the president introduced Khalilullah Sediqi, a banker by profession as new president of The Afghanistan Bank, the country's central bank and wished him success in discharging responsibilities.

The president also asked the central bank to support and encourage private sector to invest in the war-battered country.

Afghanistan's central bank was run by acting president since presidential inauguration in September. Endi
