Digital TV services test underway in Fiji

Xinhua, July 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Fijian government is running tests on digital television services in the Pacific island country, the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation reported Monday.

In a few months, the digital TV signal will be strong enough to cover Fiji's Central Division, where the capital of Suva is located, according to Communications Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

"They can go live for Digital TV between Suva to Nausori by October and soon thereafter Nadi, Lautoka and Ba. That's going quite well. With digital TV, it's not just about the quality of the picture but the ability to bring in more channels," Sayed- Khaiyum said.

The country's television service providers, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Fiji Television have been allocated spectrum which they'll be using for digital TV, said the report, adding that there is also a budget allocation for decoders which people will need to install in order to receive digital TV services.
