FARC rebels kill two soldiers in Colombia's southern region

Xinhua, July 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two soldiers were killed Friday while fighting the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels in the country's southern region of Caqueta, Colombian Army commander Alberto Mejia said.

According to an army report, the victims were identified as officer Nestor Barrera Chaparro and private Alvaro Arrigata Gonzalez, both of whom were members of the army's Jupiter Task Force.

Mejia said the soldiers died while fulfilling their duty to protect civilians from another terrorist attack by the guerrillas. Some FARC rebels sought to perpetuate an attack in Montanita municipality in the southern region of Caqueta.

"These tragic deaths demonstrate the need to continue our efforts to fight against terrorism and protect the Colombian people," Mejia said.

While fighting against the FARC rebels, three other soldiers were injured and taken to the hospital. Endi
