Albania to have energy stock exchange by 2020

Xinhua, July 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

A stock exchange is going to be opened up for the Albanian energy market, which will allow the buying and selling of shares in this important sector, Albanian Minister of Energy Damian Gjiknuri said on Thursday

The opening of a stock exchange is a condition for liberalizing the energy market, said the minister, adding that this exchange will greatly reduce the energy prices.

By the year 2020, Albania plans to be linked to the other countries in the region through interconnection lines, according to the minister.

Gjiknuri said Albania is making steps toward the liberalization of this market, noting the energy sector is currently headed in a positive direction and that this is the ideal moment for investments.

"We are on the right track. The clients are paying their energy bills, we are connecting Albania with the other countries, and by 2020 this process should be finished," Gjiknuri said.

The minister added that there is a national plan for renewable energy as well, and they are looking at future energy sources. Endit
