Merkel pledges to help BiH's EU integration

Xinhua, July 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday promised to help Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in its bid to join the European Union (EU).

"The region can only prosper if BiH develops well," Merkel said at a press conference after her meeting with the three members of BiH Presidency.

She admitted the problems in BiH were "very complicated", and needed to be solved in a bid to join the EU at an earlier date.

The German chancellor promised to help BiH develop its struggling economy and reduce high unemployment rate.

Merkel also went to a photo exhibition devoted to victims in Srebrenica massacre, in which some 8,000 Muslims men and boys were killed by Bosnian Serb forces in 1995. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Srebrenica killings.

The visit is part of Merkel's Balkan tour, in which she also traveled to Albania and Serbia. Endit
