Xinhua, July 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda's 22-year-old attacking midfielder Sula Matovu on Thursday joined South Africa's Premier League champions Kaizer Chiefs.

"We would like to confirm the signing of Ugandan winger Sula Matovu on a three year deal. Welcome to the family," the Club confirmed on Thursday.

Edgar Watson, the Uganda FA Chief Executive Officer told Xinhua that they are happy with the development.

"It is always good to have as many players joining the paid ranks because it gives us several options and exposure," he added.

Matovu who also featured for Uganda's U-23 in 2010 under coach Bobby Williamson has been undergoing trials at the club since last month under new coach Steve Komphela.

Matovu previously played for St George in Ethiopia, Arbil in Iraq and for Sweden's Hacken before his contract run out last season. Former Uganda Cranes star David Obua also played for Kaizer Chiefs from 2005 to 2008.

The other Ugandan players who ply their trade in South Africa with top tier teams include Geoffrey Massa in Bloemfontein Celtic, Boban Zirintusa in Polokwane City and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango. Endi
