Up to 21 people were killed and hundreds of others injured in ethnic clashes between Berber and Arab communities in Algeria' southern province of Ghardaia, local sources told Xinhua Wednesday.

The clashes erupted when a group of unknown youngsters with knives and firearms assailed a private bus. The overnight clashes continued until dawn, a security source said. (Algeria-Ethnic clashes)

N'DJAMENA -- Nigerian Islamic sect Boko Haram militants killed 18 villagers in Monday's attack on Memorom, a Chadian village near Lake Chad, local media reported Wednesday.

witnesses said the attack took place while the villagers gathered for meal which broke the Ramadan fasting. The governor of Lake Region, Yunus Kedallah Hamid, went to the site on Tuesday and said the attack left 3 people killed and a dozen injured. (Nigeria-Boko Haram)

BRUSSELS/ATHENS -- The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) have received a formal request for bailout aid from Greece to avoid Greek default and Grexit, a spokesperson of ESM said on Wednesday.

The request has asked for a three-year loan from the bailout fund, but the anonymous official declined to mention the amount.

The Greek Finance Ministry on Wednesday said in a statement that Greece's government pledged the immediate implementation of reforms on the formal proposal tabled. (Greece-Bailout aid)

UFA, Russia -- China and Russia should continue to maintain their high-level strategic coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday.

Xi made the remarks during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in the southwestern Russian city of Ufa ahead of two multilateral summits.

HAVANA -- The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC) announced in Havana Wednesday its willingness to decree a ceasefire from July 20 to "generate favorable conditions".

The FARC said they hoped the ceasefire would encourage the Colombian government to adopt similar measures with a view to decreasing hostilities between the two parties. (Colombia-FARC-Ceasefire)
