Tokyo shares open sharply lower on stronger yen

Tokyo shares opened the trading Thursday sharply lower as sentiment here was punched by a stronger yen, as well as on pessimism over China's stocks market.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 418.03 points, or 2.12 percent, down from Wednesday to 19,319.61.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 40.04 points, or 2.53 percent, at 1, 542.44. Endi
