Guerrero eyes titles with new club Flamengo

Xinhua, July 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Peru international striker Paolo Guerrero was officially unveiled as a Flamengo player on Tuesday and immediately vowed "to fight for a title" with his new club.

The former Bayern Munich forward was presented to local media more than six weeks after agreeing to join the Rio de Janeiro club from Corinthians.

His arrival comes days after he led Peru to third place in the Copa America in Chile, where he was the tournament's equal leading goalscorer with four goals.

"I'm very happy to be at a club of this size," the 31-year-old said. "I will give all that I've got for the team to improve and achieve something important."

Five-time Brazilian Serie A champions Flamengo are currently 15th in the league standings with just three wins from 10 matches.

Guerrero said the team could still salvage something from the season.

"I think we can fight for a title," Guerrero said. "We have a team that is good enough so I think it's possible. We have our goals and that's why we play the game."

"I know that Flamengo has a lot of history, not only in Brazil but internationally too. I've read the club has the biggest fan base in the world. It makes me proud to be part of it."

Guerrero is expected to make his Flamengo debut in Wednesday's match against Internacional in Porto Alegre. Endi
