Xinhua, July 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

One person was killed and at least 19 others injured Monday after an explosion at an arms plant in Azerbaijan, local media reported.

The blast occurred around noon at the Telemekhanika plant, located near the eastern Azerbaijani city of Shirvan and owned by the Ministry of Defense Industry.

The injured had been taken to a hospital in the city and some of them need treatment for severe burns, said a spokesman for the Health Ministry.

According to local officials, the accident was caused by an electrical short circuit.

The Telemekhanika plant produces large-caliber ammunition, including sniper rifles. Endi
