9 arrested in Morocco for spreading IS ideology

Xinhua, July 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Moroccan authorities arrested on Thursday nine people for spreading extremist ideology of the Islamic State (IS) militant group on the Internet, said Morocco's Interior Ministry in a statement.

The suspects are accused of using social media and other websites to defend IS' criminal acts inside and outside Syria and Iraq, including moves that targeted several countries this month, said the Moroccan ministry.

According to the statement, the arrested also made contacts with this militant group to encourage young volunteers to fight on its behalf, the ministry added.

It noted that the arrested used the Internet to acquire competence in relation to manufacturing and use of explosives chemicals and weapons.

Morocco announced that it has broken up dozens of IS-linked groups since the rise of the extremist organization in 2014. Enditem
