Vehicle sales in Brazil down 20 pct in 2015

Xinhua, July 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vehicle sales in Brazil fell 20.7 percent in the first half of 2015, compared to the same period last year, vehicle distributors' association Fenabrave said on Thursday.

According to Fenabrave, the figures are the lowest for the period since 2007. A total of 1.318 million vehicles (car, buses and trucks) were sold in the first six months of 2015 in Brazil, down from 1.662 million in the first half of 2014.

The negative results led Fenabrave to review its sales estimates for 2015: they now believe vehicle sales will total 2. 662 million, down 23.9 percent from 2014.

Car sales are expected to drop 23 percent, while truck sales are expected to fall 41 percent. According to Fenabrave, if their estimates are confirmed, 2015 will have the lowest sales figures since 2007 as well.

Manufacturer Fiat has the largest market share of cars, with 18. 6 percent, followed by GM, with 16 percent, and Volkswagen, with 15.5 percent.

Fiat had three models among the top 10 most sold cars in Brazil in the first half of 2015, including leading model Fiat Palio. GM and Volkswagen had two models each in the list, and Hyundai, Ford and Renault each had one model. Endite
