Xinhua, July 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Twelve members of a British family who were reported missing are in Syria, local media reported Thursday.

The family from Luton, a town in Bedfordshire, north of London, have contacted their British relatives saying they are in Syria, BBC reported on Thursday, citing sources.

The missing people include Muhammed Abdul Mannan, 75, his wife Minera Khatun, 53, their daughter Rajia Khanom, 21, and sons Mohammed Zayd Hussain, 25, Mohammed Toufique Hussain, 19, Mohammed Abil Kashem Saker, 31, his wife Sheida Khanam, 27, Mohammed Saleh Hussain, 26, and his wife Roshanara Begum, 24.

Three children, aged between one and 11 were reported among the group, said Bedfordshire police.

Relatives reported them missing after they failed to return home from a holiday in Bangladesh in May.

So far, police haven't corroborated the information but are continuing their enquiries and working with relatives who are still in Britain.

"We are devastated by the disappearance of these 12 and are very concerned for their safety. This is completely out of character and we are very worried of the danger they may now be in," a statement issued on behalf of the family revealed. Endit
