Gun battle kills 6 including Taliban shadowy governor in N. Afghanistan

Six militants including a local commander have been killed and three others injured as clash erupted in Takhar province with Taluqan as its capital 245 km north of Kabul on Thursday, a local official said.

"Security forces begun crackdown against Taliban hideouts in Khawja Ghar district early today morning and so far six rebels including their commander Qari Tayeb who served as Taliban shadow governor in Takhar province have been killed," the governor of Khawja Ghar district, Mohammad Omar told Xinhua.

Three more militants have been injured in the clash, he added.

Without revealing the possible casualties of the security forces, the official added that the operation would continue till wiping out insurgents from the district.

Taliban militants who captured Dasht-e-Arch district last week and have been fighting to overrun the neighboring Khawja Ghar district, are yet to make comment. Endi
