UN chief names new head of Geneva office

Xinhua, July 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- Moon announced Tuesday that Michael Moller of Denmark has been appointed as director-general of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).

The announcement makes official a role that Moller has been acting in since November 2013.

Moller's more than 30 years experience in international civil service began with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in countries including Iran, Mexico and Haiti. More recently, Moller was executive director of the Kofi Annan Foundation from 2008 to 2011.

Annan was the former UN secretary-general, who was succeeded in 2007 by the current UN chief, Ban Ki-moon.

UNOG is the United Nations' largest duty station outside of the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Located at the Palais des Nations, UNOG hosts more than 8,000 meetings every year, including multilateral diplomacy meetings such as the recent Yemen peace talks. Endite
