One suicide bomber was killed and at least 40 people were wounded after a suicide bombing rocked near a police station in Lashkar Gah, capital of southern Afghan province of Helmand on Tuesday, an official said.

"One militant detonated a car bomb near the provincial police station building at around 09:45 a.m. (local time), killing and injuring several people," a security official told Xinhua anonymously.

We still cannot provide precise details on the casualties, the source added.

"More than 40 wounded were admitted to the city hospitals following the Tuesday morning blast," a health official told Xinhua.

Among the wounded were two police personnel. Several injured remained in critical conditions, according to the source.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures while media and people were not allowed to enter the site.

A thick black smoke was seen rising above the site. Endi
