U.S. President Barack Obama's grandmother Sarah Obama revealed recently that Obama will spend three hours at her village of Nyangoma K'ogello in Siaya county, southwest Kenya during his July visit to Kenya, a source told Xinhua on Friday.
"I want to tell the residents of Siaya to be patient as President Obama has already confirmed his visit to the county. He will be here for three hours," Sarah said in a public occasion, according to the source.
Hoteliers in western part of Kenya are preparing for brisk business ahead of Obama's first visit as president to the country where his father was born.
A number of hoteliers in the region said Friday they have received increased bookings from both foreigners and locals.
"We do not want to take chances with security. President Obama will also come with security forces but we are also doing our best, " said Kisumu Regional Coordinator Francis Mutie, adding that there have been a lot of on-going security meetings.
Obama will attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July in Kenya and meet with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Robinson Anyal, chairman of Western Kenya Hospitality Leaders Association, said that many organizations, both local and international, have done early bookings for their officials.
He said that most bookings are being done in Kisumu County and not Siaya given that the latter does not have big hotels. Endi
