Palestinian shot dead by Israeli soldiers at West Bank checkpoint

Xinhua, June 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian man was shot dead on Friday after opening fire at Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint in West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said in a statement.

The Palestinian man driving a car opened fire at the soldiers, while in response, the soldiers at the checkpoint shot back at the Palestinian gunman who died later from his wounds, the IDF said, without providing any details about the identity of the attacker.

The incident took place at the Bka'aot checkpoint in the Jordan Valley, east of Nablus, an area in the West Bank near Israel's border with Jordan, according to the IDF.

On Sunday, an Israeli paramilitary Border Police soldier was stabbed and seriously injured by a Palestinian youth outside Jerusalem's Damascus Gate of Old City.

The incident came two days after a Palestinian sniper shot and killed an Israeli and wounded another one near the Jewish settlement of Dolev in the West Bank. Endit
