Police arrested the head of one of China's most wanted armed-drug trade gangs as well as his three accomplices on Friday in south China.

Anti-drug police in Fangchenggang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, apprehended Zheng Youbin on Friday morning as he parked his car on an expressway in the regional capital Nanning. They also seized a military-issue pistol and six bullets, as well as arrested the three passengers in the vehicle.

With Zheng's arrest, Fangchenggang Police have arrested a total of 17 members of the group and seized four military guns, 45 bullets and 25 kg of drugs.

Zheng escaped a police raid on May 3.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for more comprehensive and coordinated efforts to combat drugs on Thursday, vowing that there would be "no rest until a sweeping victory".

China had 2.95 million registered drug addicts at the end of 2014, but the real number is thought to exceed 14 million, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Endi
