1st LD: Sri Lanka's president dissolves parliament

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday signed a gazette notification to dissolve the parliament as of midnight, the government said.

The dissolution paves the way for parliamentary elections to be held in the island nation most likely in August, months ahead of schedule.

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya is scheduled to hold a media briefing on Saturday where he will announce plans with regards to the polls. Endi
