34 killed in heavy rains in western India

Xinhua, June 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 34 people have been killed due to heavy rains in the western Indian state of Gujarat since Wednesday, a senior police official said Thursday.

"Heavy rains and squally winds lashed parts of Gujarat on Wednesday. So far, the heavy downpour has claimed the lives of 34 people across the state," he said on condition of anonymity.

A senior weather official said that the state is bracing for flood because of the heavy rains that were the result of a deep depression in the weather system.

"Though flood is unlikely, still the state's disaster management system has been put on high alert," the official said.

Monsoon has already arrived in western and southern India. Endi
