Chile and Uruguay kick-off quarter finals of Copa America

Xinhua, June 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chile will take on Uruguay in the first quarterfinal of the Copa America 2015 football tournament in Chile on Wednesday night.

The match will take place in Santiago's National Stadium from 20:30 local time (23:30 GMT).

Chile, who have never been the favourites, will try to reach the semi-finals to go on to win the trophy for the very first time. However as the defending champions, Uruguay could pose a problem.

To qualify for the quarter finals, the local side won against Ecuador (2-0) and Bolivia (5-0) and drew with Mexico (3-3) in the group stage.

With seven points and 10 goals in their favour, Chile were the most successful team in the group stage.

Uruguay arrived at the quarter finals after defeating Jamaica (1-0), losing to Argentina (0-1) and drawing with Paraguay (1-1).

Chile's coach Jorge Sampaoli told local media that training for the match had been focused on defending balls and aerial ability as these are Uruguay's known strong points.

The defending champions hope to contain Chile and get ahead by using their well known, and sometimes feared, quick counter-attacks.

The referee has been announced as Brazilian Sandro Ricci. Endite
