Jiangsu Jainty edge Shanghai Greenland 3-2 in Chinese Super League

Xinhua, June 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sergio Escudero atoned for missing a penalty kick by setting up for the decisive goal as Jiangsu Sainty beat Shanghai Greenland 3-2 in the 15th round of Chinese Super League on Wednesday.

Jiangsu Sainty opened the scoring through Cruz Campos just six minutes into the game, before China international Wu Xi doubled the lead in the 11th minute.

Australian veteran Tim Cahill headed home from a corner in the 52th minute and teammate Wang Yun netted in the 55th minute to equalize for the Greenland.

Escudero missed a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, but he earned redemption when his pass found Iceland forward Vidar Orn Kjartansson, who then headed home to seal the victory for Sainty.

Also on Wednesday, SIPG, another team from Shanghai, beat Liaoning Whowin 3-1, Shijiangzhuang Ever Bright tied Shandong Luneng 1-1, Guangzhou R&F lost to Henan Jianye 2-1, Tianjin Teda lost 3-0 to Chongqing Lifan, and Changchun Yatai edged Guizhou Renhe 2-1.

Defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande will host Beijing Guo'an in a highly anticipated match on Thursday. Endi
