Philippine vice president accuses Aquino gov't of being incompetent

Xinhua, June 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

After bolting from the Cabinet of Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III, Vice President Jejomar Binay accused Wednesday the administration of being numb and incompetent.

Binay, who openly expressed his desire to run for president in next year's polls, said he is fighting for a government that would let justice and peace reign, and one that would fervently strive to create more jobs to help the needy.

He slammed the "selective justice" of the current administration, criticizing the apparent disparity between the treatment of the opposition versus those allied with the ruling Liberal Party (LP).

While he was being vilified, those allied with the ruling party that are embroiled in controversies have gone unpunished, said Binay who is facing corruption charges before the Office of the Ombudsman for alleged overpriced projects in Makati City, Metro Manila when he was its mayor.

Binay said he resigned from the Cabinet because he was not willing to let the successful pro-poor programs he implemented in Makati be disparaged and vilified.

The vice president quit Monday from the Cabinet as the head of Housing Urban Development and Coordinating Council and as Aquino's adviser for overseas Filipino workers' affairs. Endi
