Two persons including district governor sustained injuries as a bomb blast rocked Kasham district in the northern Badakhshan province on Wednesday, spokesman for the provincial government Ahmad Naved Farotan said.

"Abdul Jabbar Musadiq, the governor of Kasham district, along with his bodyguard, was injured after a remote-controlled bomb struck the district headquarters at around 11:00 a.m. local time today," Farotan told Xinhua.

Without giving more details, the official said investigation has been initiated into the case.

Meanwhile, an official on condition of anonymity said the mine was planted alongside a street and when the governor came out of a meeting, the device was detonated by a remote-controller, injuring five people including the district governor.

He also blamed Taliban militants for organizing the attack, but the outfit has yet to claim responsibility.

Badakhshan province with Faizabad as its capital 315 km northeast of Kabul has been the scene of Taliban-led militancy over the past one year. Endi
