Lisbon's Oceanarium sold under concession scheme

Xinhua, June 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Lisbon's Oceanarium, one of the world's largest aquariums, was awarded on Tuesday to Society Francisco Manuel dos Santos for 24 million euros (26.8 million U.S. dollars), under the government's concession scheme, Portuguese Lusa news agency reported.

The winner, who won a 30-year concession, must also pay an annual rent.

The final report is now expected to be approved by the council of ministers, according to Lusa.

The government is selling state-owned companies as part a plan to reduce its heavy debt load after the 78 billion euro bailout package it signed in 2011.

Other bidders for the aquarium included Spanish group Aspro Parks, Portuguese company Mundo Aquatico and French group Compagnie des Alps. Enditem
