Chinese A-share transactions top 30 trln for 2nd consecutive month

Boosted by a bull market, total turnover on the Chinese A-share stock market rose sharply and exceeded the 30 trillion yuan landmark for the second-consecutive month in May, China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) data showed on Tuesday.

Total turnover of the A-share market hit 31.21 trillion yuan (5.11 trillion U.S. dollars) last month, up 3.8 percent from the 30.06 trillion yuan registered in April.

Average daily turnover on the A-share market reached a record high of 1.56 trillion yuan in May, according to the CSRC.

China's A-share market on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses is home to more than 2,700 companies, with combined value of about 63.3 trillion yuan.

Chinese shares closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.19 percent to finish at 4,576.49 points. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 2.04 percent to close at 16,045.99 points. Combined turnover for the two bourses on Tuesday came in 1.3 trillion yuan. Endi
