Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Yu Zhengsheng on Tuesday met with prestigious Peking Opera actor Tan Yuanshou.

Yu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended an event marking Tan's 80th year on stage. He also met Tan and his family.

Also at the forum, Liu Qibao, head of the publicity department of the CPC Central Committee, expressed appreciation of Tan's contribution to promoting Peking Opera and called on artists to preserve and innovate Chinese culture, maintain cultural confidence and produce more fine art pieces.

A renowned Peking Opera performer, Tan is the fifth-generation leader of "Tan Pai" (School of Tan), a Peking Opera genre shaped by and named after the outstanding opera master Tan Xinpei.
