Macao's visitor arrivals edge up in May

Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) issued data Tuesday indicating that visitor arrivals in May edging up from the previous month to 2,548,562, increasing slightly by 0.9 percent year-on-year, and the same-day visitors, which account for 54.4 percent of the passenger volume, totaled 1,386,839, up by 2.6 percent.
According to DSEC latest figure, the number of visitors from Chinese mainland reached 1,690,987, rising by 3.6 percent month-to- month but easing slightly by 0.5 percent year-on-year, of which traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme increased by 3.5 percent year-on-year to 752,982. Visitors from Guangdong, Fujian and Hunan Province remaining to be the top three, which accounting for 52 percent of the total visitor volume from mainland.
Visitors from Hong Kong, Taiwan, United States and United Kingdom registered year-on-year increase, and the Republic of Korea reported a 31.4 percent surge, whereas those from Japan, Australia and Canada saw a decline, DSEC data showed.
The average length of stay of visitors increased by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, with overnight and same-day visitors having an average stay of 2.2 days and 0.2 day respectively, DSEC figure said.
In the first five months of 2015, visitor arrivals amounted to 12,508,218, down by 2.7 percent year-on-year. Endi
