Nikkei surges to 15-year high in morning on hopes for Greek deal

Xinhua, June 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks rose to a 15-year intraday high on Tuesday morning as fears of a Greek debt default took a breather.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 330.49 points, or 1. 62 percent, from Monday to end the morning at 20,758.68, at intraday levels last seen on April 12, 2000. The index hit a high during the morning of 20,765.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 25.23 points, or 1.53 percent, to 1, 673.84.

Gainers were led by air transport, insurance and financing business issues. Endi
