Tokyo stocks open higher in early trading following overseas markets gains

Xinhua, June 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher in early trading Tuesday as investor sentiment was boosted by gains in European and U.S. equities overnight on hopes a Greek default may yet be averted.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 134.85 points, or 0.66 percent, from Monday to 20,563.04. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.50 points, or 0.82 percent, to 1,662.11.

Gainers were led by pulp and paper, air transport and insurance issues. Endi
