UN urges help for Lebanon to sustain burden of Syrian refugees

The United Nations Deputy Special Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Lebanon Ross Mountain urged Monday the international community to increase its support for Lebanon to help it sustain the burden of the Syrian refugees.

On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, Mountain called in a press release on the international community "to increase its support for Lebanon and share with it the burdens inflicted by the Syrian refugees."

He said "the Syrian refugee crisis is the worst that the world has witnessed since WWII as 3.9 million people were forced to take refuge in the neighboring countries."

He noted that "the duty of the international community is to support Lebanon and its people in the burden inflicted by the Syrian refugees and provide the hosting communities with the needed support."

According to the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees, Lebanon hosts more than 1.2 million Syrian refugees. Endit
