Xinhua, June 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Taliban local commander surrendered to police after a bomb blast killed six of his family members in the southeastern Zabul province, police spokesman in the province Ahmad Fawad Askari said on Sunday.

"Mullah Mohammad Rasoul who served as Taliban commander in Shinkai district of Zabul province surrendered to police Saturday evening after a blast killed six members of his family including wife and mother," Askari told Xinhua.

According to Askari, some explosive devices, including hand grenades, were stored in his house but the ordnance exploded accidentally on Friday, killing six people including women and children on the spot and injured some others.

The deadly accident prompted Mullah Rasoul to kill two of his comrades and surrender to the police on Saturday.

Taliban militants are yet to make comment. Endi
