Two policemen injured, at least 10 Slovaks arrested in protest against immigrants

Xinhua, June 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two policemen were injured and at least 10 Slovaks were arrested as some 6,000 people protested against immigrants in Bratislava on Saturday.

The protest was organised by national rightist organisations and far-right political party People's Party-Our Slovakia.

According to the organisers, the aim of the protest wasn't to spread religious and racial hatred.

The situation was monitored by Slovak police, who in several places in Bratislava came to clash with the protesters.

Slovak police spokesperson Tatiana Kurucova informed that two policemen were injured.

"Ten persons were suspected of a criminal act of assault on a a public official and escorted to the police station," added Kurucova.

Slovak extremist groups have announced a protest against the European Commission's proposal for Slovakia to take up 800 migrants at the beginning of June. Since that time more than 10,000 people have confirmed their attendance on social networks. Endit
